Necessity is the mother of invention. Why do people invent things? It is usually because the inventor is trying to solve a problem that is personal to him,
So, was the case with the K9 KOMMANDER. We found a stray dog that needed training. We sent him off to a trainer who with the help of prong collar transformed our energetic dog from Sadaam Hussein to Mother Teresa.
He walked beautifully in his prong collar, but my wife had such difficulty putting the collar on, and taking it off, that she ceased to use it, thus ceased walking the dog. Thus, I had to walk the dog. Not good!
So we thought about it for a while and came up with the basic concept of a device that applied pressure to the dog’s neck to correct bad behavior. Below is a picture of the first pressure element we came up with. It was hand made from plastic and if found today by an archeologist, could be mistaken as a bad attempt by a cave man to invent the wheel. But it worked!
We then had a prototype cut by laser out of aluminum stock and added a center core, machined from aluminum round stock. We added springs which would keep the elements apart and would allow them to quickly go to there original positions after the correction. This was a big improvement over the prong collar which uses gravity to return to the non-pressure position.
